Your goal is to activate ALL the spheres so that they appear simultaneously (exactly at the same time). Mind you, you have only a few (7) seconds to perform the task. You can pull the lever in any order. However, I found this one the easiest: the lever at the door upstairs, the one under the bookcases, the one fixed to the window. Once you have succeeded in your task, a secret passage opens in the middle of the room and now you can open Barateon's hidden chest. Inside you will find a scroll. Take the scroll and return to Taranor.

Destination: Cahbaet

At least two ways to return to Cahbaet:

  • follow the same route that you came into this bedroom. Be careful, as you still must remain unnoticed.

When in Cahbaet, speak to Taranor to finish the quest.

Tips

  • While on the scaffolding and rooftops, it is safe to use magic without incurring a bounty for it.
  • There is a Hammer (T) before the first ladder on the rooftops of the Erothin, Plaza.
  • You do not need to activate Sneak mode on the rooftops. Simply avoid the guards.
  • Avoid the Mine Traps by walking towards them and waiting for them to fire, then quickly moving to the side. Moving behind an object such as a pillar works wonders.
  • 2 Ice Claw plants can be found inside the grassy room of the palace.
  • Examine Barateon's room carefully. You should find the following things:
  1. Inodanish Velvet Shoes- located next to the Chancellor's bed (No Sturdy Shoes side quest).
  2. Amulet: Sturmband (in Barateon's chest)
  3. Bank-Lockbox Key 221 (on Barateon's desk)

Notes

  • Activating the crystal only affects the guards with the ability to teleport the player to them (i.e. prevent the player from entering the castle).
  • After activating the crystal and heading to the spot where the statue is obliterated, you will suffer damage from the attack itself but the lava pool left behind will not harm you.
  • The bard near where the attack launches dies from the impact of the blast.
  • The guards run towards Erothin, Entrance just past the huge doors and stay in the vicinity of Erothin, Menagerie and the Mage's Cave for the duration of the quest.
  • If the player uses the wait command or waits too long, the guards will return to their posts. However, this and the time of day doesn’t seem to affect the quest.
  • If the player waited until daylight to enter the castle, time will advance to 10pm at night when the quest updates. Going to jail also does the same thing.
  • Initially, most guards and horses in the courtyard are invincible during stage 30 of the quest. Once the guards and horses scatter, they become vulnerable. Attacking and killing the guards near the castle door does not give a bounty nor affect the quest, with one particular guard as exception to this rule.
  • The drunk guard cannot be looted. He is disabled at stage 35 of the quest.
  • After pulling the lever to open the gate, should you fall off the rooftops here, you will die instantly.
  • Note that the gates inside the palace unlock after completing The Chancellor's Fate. Incidentally, entering the same area during that quest will cause The Chancellor's Fate to fail, with a message stating that Barateon had escaped, despite the fact that you have yet to give chase to him.
  • Some people seem not to have the time limit for pulling/activating the levers. This is especially true when the God mode cheat is active.
  • Since this is a main line quest, and there is no way around this, players who are unable to succeed at this challenge are unable to play the rest of the game.

10 This is Taranor's plan: In order to find out where Arantheal is held captive, I must break into the chamber of Chancellor Barateon and search it for documents. Taranor will take care that the guards are distracted: I shall simply locate myself near the palace gate and make the crystal he gave me glow. Then the magic projectile from Cahbaet will cause some uproar.

20 It worked, the guards are gone. Now I must try to reach the palace roof in order to approach the Chancellor's chamber from behind.
21 I'm in! Now I must stay on the rooftops, find a way to the palace's backside, and remain unseen.
22 [The guards in front of the palace start to disperse after the player starts climbing the ladder to the side of the entrance.]
23 [The guards have dispersed; a palace guard escorts Redwek the Smith to his quarters. The drunk guard notices the player and falls to his death; the player activates the lever, and the attack on the palace occurs.]

35 End Taranor knew which jail Arantheal was held in. Luckily this prison is located in the area that Taranor once administered when he still served the Chancellor. For that reason, he has the key to the tower. I can go there now and free Arantheal.
